Ravenna preserves a rich historical and artistic heritage, the enchantment of its splendid basilicas and its luminous mosaics that have endured superb and unaltered for over one thousand five hundred years. Particular emphasis is given to evidence dating from the fifth and sixth centuries CE when Ravenna was Capital of the Western Roman Empire, Capital of the Kingdom of the Ostrogoths and then a Byzantine province.

The itinerary illustrates the evolution in taste and technique of mosaic decorations, artistic expressions that make Ravenna, Capital of Mosaic.

FULL-DAY SIGHTSEEING PROGRAM (up to a maximum of 5 hours with a break for lunch): Mausoleum of Galla Placidia* (reservation required), Basilica of San Vitale, Orthodox or Neonian Baptistery* (reservation required), Sant’Apollinare Nuovo*, Archiepiscopal Museum*.
